SPRINGFIELD - Illinois residents could soon have a new license plate option thanks to a measure sponsored by State Senator Ram Villivalam that will showcase the 100 Club of Illinois.

“Continuing to support organizations throughout our state that regularly give back to first responders and their families is vital,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “Supporting them through offering license plate decals brings more awareness to the group and increases the availability of resources.”

The 100 Club of Illinois gives financial support to youth and spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty as well as mental health resources for active duty first responders. Through this measure, there will be a designation of registration and renewal fees that will be given back to the organization.

Registration fees will be $45, with $30 going toward the 100 Club of Illinois. Renewal fees will be $27, with $25 going toward the 100 Club of Illinois.

“Our first responders are a crucial part of the framework that gives Illinois families peace of mind and a sense of security. Sadly, their invaluable and dedicated service often comes at a terrible cost—and families, children and spouses, are tragically left behind,” said State Representative Michael Kelly (D-Chicago), who is also a Chicago firefighter. “The 100 Club is a fantastic organization that gives support to the families of fallen first responders, and that’s why I’m proud to help pass legislation to fund grants for their programs with the proceeds from new universal special license plates, which will also spread awareness of their outstanding mission.”

House Bill 5288 passed the Senate on Thursday.
