SPRINGFIELD — Illinois residents will see a new license plate option featuring the 100 Club of Illinois thanks to a measure sponsored by State Senator Ram Villivalam.
“Supporting organizations that regularly give back to members of our community is important, especially when the organization uplifts residents through tragedy,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “This law will support the 100 Club of Illinois and their efforts to make sure when a family is faced with tragedy, they have the resources they need.”
The 100 Club of Illinois gives financial support to youth and spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty, as well as mental health resources for active duty first responders. Thanks to Villivalam’s law, there will be a designation of registration and renewal fees that will be given back to the organization.
Registration fees will be $45, with $30 going toward the 100 Club of Illinois. Renewal fees will be $27, with $25 going toward the organization.
“First responders risk life and limb to give Illinois families peace of mind and a sense of security. Sadly, this risk means that their service often comes at a cost — with tragic consequences for families, children and spouses,” said State Representative Michael Kelly (D-Chicago), who is a Chicago firefighter. “That’s why it’s so amazing that the 100 Club is there to give support to the families of fallen first responders, and that’s why I’m proud to help fund grants for their programs with the proceeds from new universal special license plates, which will also help to spread awareness of their outstanding mission.”
House Bill 5288 was signed by the governor on Friday, and takes effect Jan. 1, 2025.
