SPRINGFIELD — State Senator Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) released the following statement after the Senate passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget:
“I am proud to vote for a budget that builds upon six balanced budgets, bringing nine credit rating upgrades to Illinois. From supporting caregivers for our seniors and persons with disabilities, to investing in the future of our youth, it is clear that we are prioritizing the well-being of our communities.
“Through this budget, we are continuing to invest in our youth through the evidence-based funding, providing quality and accessible education from kindergarten to 12th grade, as well as supporting those seeking higher education by investing into our universities and colleges.
“As the 8th District is home to the highest concentration of nursing homes in the state, I am pleased to see an hourly wage increase to our direct support professionals as they are imperative to residents’ access to critical care and the services they need to thrive.
“With continued funding for public safety grants, such as the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, and childcare access for our working families, I am honored to have collaborated with my colleagues to pass a balanced budget that not only enriches the top priorities of those in my community, but Illinois as a whole.”
