SPRINGFIELD ─ State Senator Ram Villivalam backed a new law that paves the way for increased data, transparency and accountability on toxic polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS or “forever chemicals,” in wastewater.
“Toxic chemicals pose a public health threat to our communities, especially when they are found in wastewater runoff,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “Meanwhile, wastewater treatment facilities are underprepared to understand, treat or regulate these chemicals in their families because they lack the proper tools and framework.”
CHICAGO – State Senator Ram Villivalam is proud to announce three organizations in the 8th District will be receiving over $200,000 for literacy program enhancements, workplace skills development and more.
“The organizations receiving this funding are hubs of community engagement, bringing residents together through programming and access to knowledge,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “These grants will ensure our vibrant community centers will be able to provide literacy programs and increase accessible workforce development programs right here in our district.”
SPRINGFIELD ─ A new law championed by State Senator Ram Villivalam’s will allow rideshare drivers, such as those who drive for companies like Uber or Lyft, to unionize.
“Rideshare drivers are the back-bones of our communities, getting our neighbors to their job, school or doctors’ appointments,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “So many of our residents rely on rideshare drivers – meanwhile those driving are facing decreased wages, increased vehicle costs and unfair working conditions.”

“Auto insurance are one of the most costly bills a consumer can pay – but people who rely on their car to get them to work, school and appointments can’t simply go without coverage,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “It’s time we hold auto insurers accountable and implement policies that prevent unpredictable premium increases on working-class families.”
