SPRINGFIELD — State Senator Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) released the following statement after the Senate passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget:
“I am proud to vote for a budget that builds upon six balanced budgets, bringing nine credit rating upgrades to Illinois. From supporting caregivers for our seniors and persons with disabilities, to investing in the future of our youth, it is clear that we are prioritizing the well-being of our communities.
SPRINGFIELD — With support from the Illinois Secretary of State and AARP, State Senator Ram Villivalam is leading the charge on a measure to reduce the barriers seniors face when looking to renew their driver’s licenses.
“According to the data, seniors are among the safest drivers on our roads. This legislation addresses the discrimination many older adults face by raising the age for driving tests,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “It also brings Illinois in line with 45 other U.S. states by allowing family members to report medical concerns about a relative’s driving ability, regardless of age.”
SPRINGFIELD — With the support of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois, State Senator Ram Villivalam advanced a measure to phase out the use of clothing and equipment containing toxic chemicals known as PFAS.
“Firefighters play an essential role in protecting and supporting our neighbors through accidents, illness and more,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “By allowing harmful chemicals to be used in their clothing and equipment, we are putting their health at risk.”
SPRINGFIELD ─ To provide families and legal guardians with information about services their child might need, State Senator Ram Villivalam advanced legislation aimed at increasing opportunities to inform parents about the Early Intervention program.
“Early intervention is life-changing for many families, as these programs provide critical services and therapies as children develop,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “But, these services can only benefit those they are able to reach, which means uplifting the program and expanding its outreach to those who need it is imperative.”
